Well, I've been at this game a long time, I think it is time that I finally get an aftermarket exhaust. I think I've exhausted (no pun intended) the readily available mods in my engine bay. I was thinking of 2.25 crush bent, manifold back, with high flow cat, removed resonator, and a new muffler.
Now, this comes with a few stipulations. I absolutely hate when a 4 cylinder car sounds like a Harley so I would like to go for a quieter set up. I live in a fairly uptight neighborhood and leave for school at 6:20 A.M. and have already caught flak from intake noise. I need reasonably less restriction, but not that legendary "Fart Can" sound. If this means getting a little more restrictive muffler for a bit quieter sound, I'll do it.
Now, does anyone have any recommendation to what CAT and intake I should get? I was thinking either Magnaflow or Flowmaster for both, but if anyone has better recommendations I really would like to hear them. I don't really like the look of cylindrical mufflers, so I think I'm gonna opt for a oval rectangled one that is a little more recessed into the body with a tip leading to the bumper. I would probabally like to get this done late November/December when the temp goes down into double digits along with the humidity.
I know the topic has been done to death but does anyone have any recommendations about what part # I should order and from what company?
Thanks,
Damir
Finally time for an exhaust Recommendations!

My Cielo doesn't carry a catalyst so it is fairly free flowing to begin with. However, when I put the 2.5" pipe on there and removed the resonator I had problems after I went back to NA setup. There wasn't enough backpressure. It started to bog down around 2500rpm. I had to replace the resonator to get back driveability. My exhaust has a single single rear pan with one inlet and two outlets (one on either side of the car) 2.5" pipe all the way down from the manifold. Much of the "farty" sound you hear sometimes is from the tip you use. My car doesn't have any special tips, just the 2.5" pipe sticking out. It has a deep bass and none of that farting sound. I wish she was here so I could record her sound and let you hear her purr.
Cogito ergo sum...

Thats exactly the sound I'm going for, a deep bassy rumble like the stock American V-8 Muscle cars in idle when I'm driving. It is not at all about making my car sound more powerful, it is more about the Lanos having a-non restrictive exhaust.
I finally got my car back to the MPG of the days of yore. I changed the vacuum hoses, cleaned sensors, and did idle learn procedure, and I'm finally getting to what the car had back in the day. I'm thinking an exhaust might help.
Besides, it never hurst to have a couple extra HP, which was proven to me by my friend's Passat. I had him until he hit turbo dammit!
