connecting rod question

Post by Audacity Racing »

i ordered my forged internals last week...

but i was wondering... what profile is the best for connecting rods? there is an "H" shape and an "I" shape... which one is best?

they were the same price and i went for the "H"

From what I've read on DSM boards 'H' designs are much stronger.

Yep...H-beam rods are stronger, but I would think the disadvantage is that they are heavier than I-beams if of the same material.

The "H beam" vs "I beam" discussion has been going on since before most of us were born.

I doubt that it would have made an difference had you chosen I beam instead of H beam.

Unless your going to be running race gas or alchohol most decent quality forged rods will do the job no matter which design you go with.

Which company did you choose for the rods??

I've done piles of research on both "off the shelf" forged rods made specificaly for our engine as well as on some custom sets from manufacuturers such as Pauter.

i went with eagle rods and pistons. they were 560 for the rods and 600 even for the pistons. my mains that i had forged came from a local shop and ran me 350.

is the cavalier 2.2L ecotec the same as the daewoo?

if it is there are TONS of forged parts for it... cranks, rods, pistons, mains, even the titanium forged parts (1200 dollars for 4 pistons)...

i bought them from ride revolution and hey are installing for free cause they are using my woo as a guinea pig. they've never worked on one before...

Ecotec 2.2 In Cavalier is different from the 2.2 E-Tec in the Leggie.

Cavalier:

Leganza:

The Ecotec is a new family of engines (L61) most notably distinguished by it's front mounted intake manifold. The E-Tec (GM Familly II) has a rear-mounted intake manifold. Additional clues are the more rounded camcover of the Ecotec. The E-Tec also has a very large and prominent camgear cover. There are in fact Ecotec 2.0 engines but those are in fact the same family as the E-Tec, but still unrelated to that in the Cavalier.

Hmmmm...... are you saying you bought forged rods and pistons designed for a 2.2L ECOTEC???

The rod length + compression height is very close to the 2.0L..... but the big end width is way off.

I don't have my book here but if I'm remembering correctly the ECOTEC rods are about 1/4" smaller on the bottom end which means they won't work with the Nubira crank.

I think I might be assuming too much...... which engine do you plan to install it into???

The 2.2L Daewoo engine has a totally different set of rods/pistons than the Nubira.

The American 2.2L ECOTEC rod/piston combination would end up being way off.
