Horse Power for my Leganza

Post by hazard leganza »

I wanted to add some horse power to my leganza and I was wondering what are my options. Because I was thinking of doing an engine swap but not sure which one would fit perfectly. All you Guys are very helpful when it comes to helping each other out.

Engine swaps are numerous, provided tyou have money and contacts in Europe.

Your first option is the popular C20XE...a 2.0L 16v unit pumping out 150hp. It came as standard equipment on Opel/Vauxhall SRi and GSi trimmed models. It's a good lump with LOTS of modification parts around Europe.

Next is the C20LET. This little beast is also a 2.0L 16v unit, but has a KKK turbocharger bolted to it's exhaust. This pumped out 190+hp in stock trim but is known to be tunable WELL beyond 300hp. This engine came in all-wheel-drive models of the Cavalier/Vectra/Calibra. It was mated to a 6-speed manual box that you would be best advised to obtain as well. The 4-wheel drive mechanism can be removed with kits that are available, thus giving you a chancce to use it in your 2wd Leggie.

I am not sure if this is at all possible in a Leggie, but it would be wonderful to see the results. Vauxhall/Opel have 2.5L and 3.0L 24v V6 units in their stable that MAY be able to drop into the Leggie. I know the 2.5L drops into Astras (cousin of the Lanos) so I have no reason to really doubt the possiblity of it fitting here.

If all else fails you can indeed boost the 2.2 that resides under your bonnet. Frankly, this is my least favourite of the bunch. Too many potential complications.

Do the research and see what you can afford. Good luck.

Engine swaps are also my favorite thing, but like Tango said, if you haven't the money, time, or contacts in Europe, it is probabally out of your league.

For most weekend DIY hotrodders, like myself and probabally you, your best bet is to try to raise the horsepower with what you have got. It is the most time and cost effective and the most fun. But then again, it all depends on the power you want.

A. A little extra power and gas mileage for an enhanced driving experience:

Go with basic custom intake/exhaust with can be had cheaply at most exhaust shops with a mandrel bender. Then you can slowly add more "cheap" mods like headers, plugs/wires/ignition/grounds, etc. You would yield a nice power output.

B. A little more serious hotrodder with an addiction to the stoplight and maybe an occasional urge to go to the track... also with a much bigger budget.

In addition to above mods, you would want to go with a turbo or nitrous for the most power boost. But that would include strengthening the internals and might get pricey, but you could easily go above 300 HP with a boosted 2.2L with forged internals.

C. Full time race car with a big time budget.

Go with any of the engine swaps Tango mentioned. They will give you the best bang for your buck and least braking potential if you plan to spend your time at a track.
