Advancing Ignition Timing

Post by SoulReaver »

my friend who seems to be some kinda of master mechanic advanced my ignition timing for me today... HUGE difference to the performance. revs higher, quicker response, more torque. Only downside is i have to use 98RON petrol and it stalls on idle sometimes

this was on a 1.5L SOHC cielo engine... so on a 2.0L engine i would imagine much greater results.

how much advancment are we talking here? the stock 1.5 SOHC fires at 10 deg. before TDC so at how many deg. is your engine firing now?

You have to be very careful when advancing timing, especially if the engine is not equipped with the knock sensor. Something like this should be performed on a dyno, with proper wideband 02 sensor, to ensure the engine does not lean out. Advancing the timing too much will prone detonation.....
