Tool for removing fuel line

Post by SuperDuperDaewoo »

What tool do I use to remove the fuel line from the fuel filter? I have seen the disconnect kits sold at the local auto parts store.

They look like this...

What size is the fuel line disconnect tool? (Example 5/16")

Thank you in advance for your prompt response.

Er...They make special tools for this? LoL.

I just used pliers to pry the stock Daewoo metal connector on the fuel filter from the line, the new plastic ones from the "generic" model are fit perfectly with no leaks, and next time, I can just squeeze the tabs with my fingers and take the filter off. Yes, removing the metal Daewoo ones was a pain in the ass for me, but it wasn't worth buying any new tools over. Just remember to relieve the fuel pressure and watch where you put the filter as there is still some gas in it. That stuff eats through asphault!

That depends on the type of retaining clip. I've hear that Daewoo uses both and don't know which ones they used on which years.

The special tool is for the retaining clip that slips inside the end of the fuel line. It slides down and releases the line. They are fairly cheap but make sure not to get that crappy "X" lookin one. They suck to use. Get one that looks like a pair of pliers.

One side of mine was the plastic retaining tab kind you can take out with your fingers and the other one was a metal one that wasn't moving!

Took like 20 Mins of work but I finally mangled the thing and took it out. Now both sides have the plastic kind and should be a cinch to remove later.

Lucky for one that at least one side was the simple clip. Both mine on the Ford Exploder were the hard ones and even with the tool they weren't easy to remove. Damn ford!

Ok I have one of those that need that special tool but i cant find one that will fit. The ones I find are all too tall and I cant fit them between the filter and the line.

Any suggestions.

I don't recommend this. You could damage your fuel line among other things.

you have a better chance to strip the firewall off the car's body than getting that link off.

i saw the link you are talking about guys... it is not at my fuel filret... it is at where the fuel line attaches to the fuel rail. i think their is no way in hell to take it off without a special tool.

Thats what happened to me, but for me pliers and anger worked as well as donkey- yanking the thing.

Daewoo made sure that most basic weekend wrenches would give up on the fuel filter and need to come to the stealership and pay them to do it.

if anybody else has had problems with this this is what i did
there is a tool for taking off fuel lines but it wont fit the daewoo because they are too long so to fix this you shave off some of the end so it will fit between the fuel filter and the line
