Fuel rail size

Post by MMamdouh »

Hi guys... I was wondering if the size of the fuel rail affects the engine performance in any way whatsoever.

The reason I am asking this is that I saw some Woos with a smaller fuel rail than mine yet we share the very same 1.5 8 valves SOHC engine. My fuel rail is cylindrical and big... other Woos got it rectangular and small.

the way I see it is the fuel rail provides fuel to the injectors so fuel is just sitting their under pressure in the rail waiting for an injector to open up and feed a cylinder so the rail is not affecting performance in any way... am I right??

If that is the case then why Daewoo switched to smaller fuel rails?? Are they just cheaper or something? Or is their more into this than I can figure out?

Also what about the fuel heat? I mean if I got bigger rail so their is more fuel in it and accordingly a bigger chance for fuel to gain extra heat before being sprayed by the injectors, will that affect performance? Will added heat affect how the fuel evaporates or how well it burns?

Need some thoughts from you guys.

Yes, it does not effect the performance. The only reason I see for using a larger fuel rail in a performance application, is if the engine was in a state of tune that required the use of much larger injectors and the fitment of larger fuel lines and pump to support them.

The difference in daewoo fuel rails may just be down to a change in supplier, design change for production reasons, etc.
