Noisy Belts
I have been hearing my belts squeek for a little while now. I am wondering if this means that they need to be adjusted, or replaced? Or if I should just spray on some of that no-squeek spray that you buy at the auto parts store? Can someone please give me some input on this. Thank you, and have a great day!

It is a simple fix, it means that you need your belts tightened. Happened to me a few years back and during startup my car was sooooo damn loud, like someone put a cat in my engine and it was suffering till its doom, squealing like crazy, I was embarassed to drive it, and I even got noise complaints in my neighborhood if I was starting it late at night.
I took it to the Dealer and he said that they tightened the belts, what I assume means that he pulled the tensioner out further, to stop the noise.
To this day I have never figured out why simply tightening the belts fixed the noise, but I have never had the problem since.
I believe that the dealer only took a few dollars for the fix. So, go with the safe way and avoid the anti-squeak stuff.

knowing the dealership where i'm at they'll keep my car for like a couple of days then charge me out the ass for it. but i plan on turning it in anyways for the recalls since i'll be out of state for a few days so i'll have them look at that too. that and see if i need a new timing belt. my cars got like 47000 miles already on it so i think i'd rather be safe than sorry.

i replaced all my belts at 40,000 kms mark... thats a timing belt, alernator belt and A/C belt.
during the normal operaton of the belt it tends to expand thus making it relativly loose on the pullies and they start to slip... that what makes the phenominal cat squel thing.
some times the squeal just at morning start ups (squeal for a few seconds) and that is not really bad but if it is an all time squeal you have the wrong tension on the belt and you will damage the belt and will make the engine over heat because of the extra friction.
one solution it to tighten the belt by moving the alternator a bit towards the fire wall to compansate for the belt expansion in case of a squealing alternator belt. for a squealing A/C belt you need to pull the idling pulley at the bottom of the engine down to compansate for the expansion.
also a quick fix i used for a while... put some grease on the squealing belt; that will help if the belt is a bit worn and starting to be stiff. please note that in this case the belt is starting to give away and you better replace it soon.
don't use engine oil on belts or any rubber parts... oil eats up rubber and will damage the rubber parts in short time.
P.S: if you decided to do the greas quick fix, apply the greas while the engine is off then start the engine and don't stand in front of it while it is running... the belts will spit any extra greas out and you don't want that on your face.
