Anyone using a standalone engine management??
Just wanted to know if anyone is using any type of EMC such as AEM or Electromotive, etc. in their car. I am thinking that I might want to go this route so I can have more precise engine control. I do plan on turboing a T22SED in the future and put it in my sunbird(I'm sure that some of you have seen my numerous posts on this, I'm just confused and don't know what I want to do just yet!) I will build the engine with forged parts to handle 25 psi, and wan't to make sure that it will run right. Anyone have any input? I'm looking for good and bad experiences/products. Thanks, Paul Moore
i am running the Greddy emanage on my lanos.. i looked at doing AEM but i remember it not working with auto trany or something like that, if you run a ECM like AEM and had a manual, then it wouldnt matter what you put into the car as long as it fits and mounts up, if i had a manual i probably would have ended up going with the AEM ECM.
25psi is alot.. my friend was running 22 psi in his talon and the dipstick blew out and all his oil was squirting out, so he turned it down to 19psi but it was too late.. he had blown the ring right off of piston 1, dont know exactly what happened because i wasnt with him when it went but he has over 11,000 into the car, but its fast as hell now

Well, I plan on building the engine to handle 25 psi, but that will be for a short time period while I'm blasting down the quarter mile. Daily driving will probably see a maximum boost pressure of about 15-17 psi. I will have some custom parts including forged JE pistons, forged Crower rods, and some type of forged steel crank. Maybe have the block o ringed, I'm not sure just yet. So how did youcome to the decision on the Greddy unit? Did you have any other units you were interested in? Thanks!
well i thought about getting the Apexi SAFC2 but it just didnt offer enough tuning. the greddy emanage is a piggy back fuel computer that allows you to change the amount of fuel/air/timing the car is getting, for the price its actually worth what you get. subchad knows way more than i do about this unit as for he has it on his subaru, and has been using it for way longer then me

I'd suggest something more like 10psi for daily driving.... 15psi will probably run your engine at around 230hp 260lbft of torque..... which can be too much power if you don't have the traction to back it up.Big P wrote:Daily driving will probably see a maximum boost pressure of about 15-17 psi.
Then again the Sunbird is heavier so you might need more power and your running an automatic so it will be smoother.
Tom (360Dynamics) runs about 195whp and 250lbft of torque in his Pontiac LeMans at around 12psi and it goes like hell... I can't begin to imagine how hard it would be to drive in the winter (good thing he parks it)
