Nubira oil leak from?

Post by JP »

Greetings, glad I found this site!

Can not find oil leak... oil pan its not it, oil filter is always wet. could it be the oil pump gasket? crankshaft seal?

New to these cars.. are these cars notorious for oil leaks? Otherwise, it run great.

mine never leaked.

My advice is to clean it up and make it look brand new. Keep an eye for any oil then. It's hard to tell where it's leaking from if it's covered in oil.

if you see your oil level dropping on the dip stick then it is not necessarly a leak... could be your engine is burning up oil due to bad piston rings or valve guids (spelling).

make sure you don't burn oil in the combustion chamber first then check for leaks... burning oil will make exhaust gases light blue and your exhaust tail tip will have oily resedues in it... if you don't have that then it is a leak.

A good way to check for leaks is to put a large piece of cardboard (like a flat refrigerator box) under the engine area of your car when you park it for the night.

If you see leaks on it in the morning, you can see where it dripped and approximately where the drip came from.

Thanks for your input, it turns out that the leak is coming from the oil filter block assembly, not the oil filter itself, but the part that attaches to the block, apparently I need to replace the gasket and that would be a lot of work, since timing belt, and crankshaft pulle probably have to be remove to get to it... they quoted me $250.00 for labor plus parts...

I hope I am able to find just the gasket.

Parts aren't that hard to find.
Go to www.gm-car-parts.com
They're pretty decent to work with.
