speedometer help needed

2001 leganza speedometer not working...dealer is 150 miles away...they mailed sensor to me...local mechanic installed it, still no speedometer.he said there is another sensor in the trans. that controls it...any one familiar with this??...dealer wont take part back...anyway i can locate the other sensor online so my mechanic can get this fixed?..he is very small town guy!!!
