Hello All,
This weekend at an intersection out of nowhere i saw wispy smoke coming from under my hood. I then looked at my gauges and it said normal temp i WAS NOT overheating. The engine was wet though and leaking coolant slowly. I turned it off and let it cool down. Then filled it up with the remainder of coolant in my trunk and made it home safely without smoke or overheating at all. When i pulled into my parking spot is when the wispy smoke came back....i'm thinking worst case is my water pump but everyone i talk to say it would be overheating??? Any thoughts are much appreciated!
Kaylie.

Re: WISPY SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD
Hello,
There are a lot of things that could cause the white smoke. Without seeing it I would have to guess a coolant leak onto the exhaust manifold.
I would suggest washing the engine well, let it dry and then run it you'll have a better chance to see where the leak is from.
Look for somewhere higher u., if it were the water pump, coolant would just run down the front of the block and drip onto the ground.

Would that be a hose or seal then if not the pump?

Yeah. I'd lean more towards the thermostat housing.

I'm thinking the oil leaking out of the valve cover gasket and onto the motor. I get that quite a bit. i've changed it sevearl times and it still leaks. what does the smoke smell like? that will tell you what's leaking

Re: WISPY SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD
the upper radiator plastic inlet on muh 2.0 had disintegrated
internally... didn't know at first when looking at that.
but I had issue with the coolant leaking on the exhaust
and creating some steam and bad smell.
finally figured it out as I was pulling things apart.
the upper inlet completely crumbled with I took the upper hose off.
the fix was replacing the radiator
I'd start looking at leaking coolant to be the cause of your issue.
Overheating may not be of issue until the coolant level gets too low.
