No, it's not. It's some sort of emissions control so it's more or less just a name. There is no variable timing on our cars.

I wish people would really use the search button before post a topic for the !,000,000 time! The boost you feel is from the VGIM (variable geometric intake manifold) you have two chambers a long runner for torque, then at 4500 rpm it switches to the short runners for more HP
Aveo that moves! Now I need those cams!

correcto on that.. Unfortunately i have found that the breather valve that leads into the intake causes oils and other stuff to build up and the VGIM to not work properly or not as good. i recommend running a tube to the bottom of engine bay rather then into the intake

so its a good idea to take out the tube from the intake to the engine.?Should we just breather it? Every one has told be that there is no affect in doing this. But if there is I will do it. What size breather fits a leganza? Do i just buy one of those APC ones and plug the intake hole.

I had the breather tube in my intake and it spewed all types of oil and carbon buildup into my Throttle Body and Intake Manifold. My recommendation is remove it. The APC little filter things don't perfectly fit our cars, but if you piggyback them onto another tube, it works fine.

Some have said that this causes oil to spill over your engine, but I haven't really noticed anything.

Ok...part two. Since my Intake Manifold is so clogged, how big of a task do you guys think it would be to remove it, take it apart and take some good carb cleaner to it. Is there anything in there that could break and f*ck up my car. I have to change my Intake Manifold gasket, so I while I was at it I would also like to clean the manifold. How hard of a task do you guys think it is? On a scale of 1-10. I'd really like to gain use of VGIM and gain some speed in the higher Revs...PLZ HELP.

To remove the intake manifold you first need to take off the throttle body and fuel rail. Both consisting of two bolts.
The intake manifold isn't too hard to take off and clean.
There are 3 bolts on top and 2 nuts on the studs on each end.
On bottom there are 4 bolts under each intake port.
Voila, you took the intake manifold off.
Oh yeah, there's also 2 bolts behind the intake manifold that hold it to some bracket.
Anywho, the manifold just comes apart in two pieces.
Spray some cleaner in there, take it to a high presure washer and SCRUB the hell out of it. If you really wanna go the extra mile polish it all out and port match the runners with the gaskets. In all honesty it doesn't really add much, if any, power but I'm sure it runs more efficiently.
Yes you will definately need a new intake manifold gasket as these never last for more than one use.
