Stuttery

Post by muaythaikid »

Hey guys,

Got a little bit of a problem with my lanos. I'll start from the beginning.

So I got a 1.4 99 3dr manual lanos and all that was wrong with it was the fuel pump. The previous owner had replaced a lot of the parts from the engine and such because they couldnt find the fault until the fuel pump was tested and turned out that was the problem. So the car wasn't moved in about 9 months.

I installed the new fuel pump and the car wouldnt start it felt like it wanted to but it just couldnt so after about 2 hours of blowing through hoses and jump starting the car the petrol finally got into the engine and the car started. When it started it sounded very stuttery and very loud and also didnt tick over properly. It kinda sounded like a subaru that kind of bubble sound.

After a few drives around I've noticed that its drinking the petrol and is very stuttery some times when accelerating, you could take off, foot to the floor and the car would just roar but wouldnt be going any bit fast then it feels like a turbo kicks in and it gains speed but obviously there is no turbo basically its very unresponsive.

When I say it drinks petrol I mean if you put your foot down you could almost watch the needle go down ha.

Any body got any ideas on what the problem might be?

Well, since your Irish and I'm Irish I will take a stab =)

I would check for any possible codes coming up. If none I would still check the fuel pressure and make sure everything is within spec. Ceck and double check.

Also check the firing order and make sure during all these parts replcement the wires were not crossed.

Check that the pressure regulator is not leaking fuel through it's vacuum port. Pinch this hose temporarly to check. Check color of spark plugs electrodes: oily, soot,...

After sticking this problem for long me and my buddy decided to try sort it out.

Benzino you had it in 1. Turns out there was a spark plug wire in chamber 2 bad and 3 and the way the spark plug was put into chamber 2 there was an air leak and it was jammed. After lots of wd40 and elbow grease we got it out and replaced it the car now drives smoother and better than ever.

Seems like the FPR kicks in far too late. Try another FPR. Or check it's not leaking at the vacuum hose.
