Hello everyone
I am looking for a second car to drive on rainy days and in the winter and am interested in a low mileage 2000 daewoo nubira.
I test drove the car and it seems to drive fine, however when I look online many people say the timing belts are very prone to failure.
We all know that people are more likely to complain then tell a good story and that people who buy inexpensive cars are less likely to maintain them properly and therefore increasing the likelyhood of problems occuring. So I am wondering if these cars are really reliable or if they have timing belt issues?
Cant wait for some responses so I can plan on what to do
You pinpoint the problem. Lack of scheduled maintenance leads to failure on any machine. IMHO the bad reputation of Daewoo vehicles is coming from this fact.
There are many other timing belt breakage stories for much more expensive cars than Daewoo.
I,ve had my 1999 Lanos 1.6 for ten years and have had no major problems with it.I
changed the timing belt @ 59,051 miles . I did not use the daewoo Timing belt.
I replaced it with a Gates 3 T310 belt ( better,more reliable belt. ) Also replaced
the water pump w/ gasket , tensioner and idler pulley. Because the Daewoo Lanos
is so inexpensive , you can modify and customize it to your taste. Daewoous.com
has all the parts you need and so do most Auto parts stores. Take good care of them
and they will take care of you. Be careful of buying any car ,that has been abused.
