Fuel Pump Woes on 2000 Lanos 1.6

Post by Tiletrader »

Probably got a bad fuel pump but what throws me is that it powers up when you turn the key on but still unable to get any pressure to the rail. After changing the filter that didn't help, I took the hose off the top of the pump and attached a seperate drain hose on the fitting (so I wouldn't spray fuel everywhere) and had someone turn on the key. It powered on but still not even a trickle. Car has not ran in a while and after fixin some "under the hood issues" I run into this. I also pulled the pump and checked the filter on the end of the pump--and it looked ok as far as I could see. Still powers up but fuel refuses to come out-- Gotta be the pump?

may have to look at the fuel lines or the pick up on the othere end of the pump in the tank u have have some slug or something bloking the pickup side as the car has been sitting for a long time.
so my advice would be take the pump out of the tank and clean the pickup side then see how it goes.

don't I recall a post where there is a problem with the fuel pump wire corroding due to moisture on the passenger floor? Someone covered that and describes which wire it is (color and location) on the passenger side floor. From what I recall several cars appeared DOA due to this problem. they turn over but won't start because the fuel pump is not getting power. just an idea. Do a search on this site and you should find it.
