I've been reading the forum for a while now and found much helpful info- thanks for all the informative posts. I finally have the car back together after changing the belt and installing a reman Aveo head. I am hearing a loud squealing noise coming from the belt area. I first thought it was the alternator or the power steering pump, but after disconnecting that belt the sound persists. I suspect the tensioner pulley to be the culprit and am planning on tearing it back down and doing a full pulley/pump kit.Two issues I need serious help with are:
1. the crankshaft gear will not come off- can't get a puller behind it and it just won't budge
2. the long bolt on the alternator will not come out - are there threads in the bracket itself or just the nut? the nut comes off easy enough and it seems that the bolt should just slide out but it won't move
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi,
This was a old post! Still in trouble with the 1.6DOHC?
1) you don't need to take the crankshaft gear off to do the belt/tensionner job. But the crankshaft pulley need to be removed and the 17mm head bolt is very, very tight.
2) To me the long bolt just slides in the bracket. Try penetrating oil while turning bolt head.
