My timing belt pulley broke and my timing belt came off at about 30 MPH.
I replaced the timing belt and pulleys.
The engine turns over, but wont start. Any clue on what's up?
Even though the timing marks are lined up could I have got the timing wrong?
I notice it takes one full rotation of the crank shaft for one rotation of the cams.
The intake is closest to the firewall (on the left) and the exhaust is closest to the front of the car (right) ... right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I just did something wrong and I don't have to take the head off.

Re: Timing Belt Went Out.
sorry to tell you but the car wont start without a rebuilt or replaced head. these motors are an interference type so you undoubtedly have bent valves.
Re: Timing Belt Went Out.
Sadly but truth be spoken. Head must be pulled and any damaged valves replaced. If you can pull the head off yourself your looking at maybe 80-120 to get the head rebuilt plus cost of new valves. If you wanna build it yourself and just send the head to get resurfaced your looking at around 30-50 bucks.
Used valves can run you anywhere from 3-8 dollars each.
Ofcourse these prices coming from the US and a busy city (miami) where things are found plentiful and usually thrown away around here lol.

Re: Timing Belt Went Out.
Thank you!!! That's painful feedback ... but really great feedback.
I was assessing the job for removing the head and I notices that the #3 spark-plug wire was not fully on.
I pushed them all back in and my battery was dead so I couldn't test to see if maybe it was a spark issue.
I'll retest tonight and see what happens.
Thanks for your replies.

Re: Timing Belt Went Out.
Just save yourself time and do a compression test on each cylinder. If no compression then you know its a mechanical problem, iow your valves got bent.
The head on these cars pulls off in about 2 hrs if you got air and tools.

Re: Timing Belt Went Out.
I did a compression test ...
1: 195 psi
2: 0 psi
3: 195 psi
4: 30 psi
Is that a sign of bent valves?

Re: Timing Belt Went Out.
This just happened to me too, but I have 0 compression in all cylinders Mine was caused by a small piece of battery terminal cover making its way into the belt cover through the hole at the top behind the cam gears. After rattling around for 6 months (at least) it caused my belt to jump 4 teeth and then crunch . This only happend today so I am still getting prices of possible repairs, but am expecting about $400 to remove and fit head, $25 per valve, $150 for gaskets, plus anything else that broke. I wouldn't be supprised after everything if I got any change from $1500.
I hope yours doesn't work out that bad.
Cheers
