how to check Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor
cause i have a small leakage in my radiator so i always watch the instrument panel indicator and i always find it in the middle and last week i found no water in surge tank and the indicator was in the middle too and i added 1 liter of water (to cold engine) to raise the water level to the min. mark in surge tank
my question is : why the indicator still keep its position (in the middle) while the water decrease in the cooling system and how can i check that sensor
when i start engine the indicator move from zero (cold) to the middle in few minutes and it always keep the middle while the car is running

To check temperature sensor(s) you need to measure their electrical resistance at different knowed temperatures.mohsen wrote:how to check Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor

One temp sensor is on intake manifold. It is connected to instrument panel temp gauge.
Another temp sensor is on the head near ignition coil. It is connected to ECU to manage ignition&fuel delivery.
I guess your sensors are OK since your temp needle moves and you don't report any MIL event.
Your temp gauge stays in the middle because it's only a temp gauge and temp was OK. It is not a coolant level indicator.

thank you very much Daniel
Re: how to check ECTS
losing 1 liter of coolant is not sufficient to raise the engine's temperature so that the temp gauge can report a problem
