2000 nubira water pump orientation

had my water pump bearings fail, loosening the belt up enough to possibly do the nasty thing with the valves, but to find out it seems i have to put in a new pump just to run the engine for a minute. anyway, this is how i am approaching it. didn't look too carefully at the old one's orientation and now i'm not sure quite how to put the new one in. it doesn't spin 360 degrees but seems like i could put it in wrong. where do i start out with the big nub that sticks out on one side-10 oclock,2 oclock,etc. before turning it to tension the belt? i haven't had any success getting "free repair manual" diagrams off the web for my 2.0 liter engine, the ones i have seen are too crude to see the water pump in a useful way. anybody help on this one?

not sure, but is that DOHC, or SOHC?
i might be able to pull some pics off my online manual...

i came across a pic that i have and i can see the gear on the pump is actually pointing to the area between 5 and 6 oclock

thats a 00 nubira engine? looks like a 1.6 lanos. hahaha.

thanks for the pix and pdf address. the engine is of course a dohc. got the belt back on but turning the water pump didn't give me much in the way of adjustment room. here's my new question: my tensioner has a cam so it actually acts as a tensioner without diddling with the water pump. it has a lobe in front with a 6mm hex hole to turn the cam and tighten the belt. this is what i ended up using to tighten the belt so i can give it a startup test and see if there's valve damage and it seems like it was designed that way. in fact i couldn't use the water pump because the napa pump i got has no flats to use the special tool on and it's seemingly impossible to pry/twist the pump in other ways. whaddya think?

the lanos and nubira share the same 1600 DOHC engine... only difference is the front engine mount and PWS pump placment

the nubira got a 1500 DOHC engine as well as a 1800 SOHC over and above the 2000 DOHC

the pry stuff idea.. what i would last resort to. since like you said they isnt much to used (lips/grooves) but its a last resort..
