Cold Startup Problem

Post by Mathew_ZA »

hello

ive got a problem with my 2000 1.6 16v lanos...

i had my engine overhauled 5000 km's ago, and ever since i got it back, ive been having problems with it whenever i start the car up and the engine is cold.

1, it starts perfectly, but there is a very strong petrol smell. you can smell this from inside and outside the car.
2, while its idling (when the engine is still cold), the entire car rattles rather loudly, as if there's an engine mounting loose, but there is not.
3, if you put the car in gear, and start to drive off slowly, and it sounds like its misfiring badly.
4, when the engine is still cold, and you are driving, as soon as you press in the clutch, the rev's drop and the engine dies...

this all only happens when the engine is cold, as soon as the engine is heated up, the car drives/behaves perfectly...

does anyone know, what thing (combination of things) is causing this?
the CO2 levels have been checked and is fine

Thanx in advance!!!!

1st: CEL?
2nd: Check for fuel leaks in the engine compartment, under the car, etc.
3rd: Do a tune-up (replace spark plug wires, spark plugs, etc)

Might work ;)

hi,

Check that the fuel rail is secure and that upper & lower injector's Orings are present and in good shape.
No "check engine" light?

hi!

thanx for the reply's

everything was replaced when the engine was overhauled.

will check the rail, but the car dying when the engine's cold, is really bugging me!

the engine light is on when the ignition is on, but goes away when i start the car, and when it dies after i pressed in the clutch, its on again...

it kinda sounds like you have leaky injectors. when the car does start up do you have black smoke comming from the tail pipe?
