Timing Belt ripped off in Nexia 1.5 DOHC
hi
While i was driving in slow city conditions, the timing belt of my Nexia 1.5 DOHC ripped off. However, before concluding on timing belt damage, I tried to crank the car a few times, but latter managed to see the damaged timing belt through its cover.
My questions are:-
1. What could be the things which i might have damaged by cranking (4-5 times) and how can I validate the same?
2. How to make the correct timing settings? I know the information is there in "How To Do" forum, but the images there are not loading up and i am finding it very dificult to set the marks on both the Cam Pulleys.
Many thanks in anticipation.
Goldie.

1- most probably you got bent valves... best practice is to remove cylinder head and inspect the damage... you can put a new timing belt then do a compression test to confirm if you have bent valves but at this point you will have to rip the engine apart once again to fix it... better to do it at the beginning of the job
2- the marks on both cam gears should be facing each other (mark on exhaust cam to be pointing right and mark on intake cam facing left)

Many thanks for the information.
But my problem is that both the Cam Pulleys have 2 marks on each of them. I don't understand which 2 marks should be aligned.

Can you post a pic of your cam pulleys?goldiegill wrote:Many thanks for the information.

This link is again confusing and contradicting MMamdouh.

the engine in the mentioned link is a 2.0 DOHC, different setup than what you got... you don't have the INTAKE & EXHAUST engraved on the cam gears... engine mount is at the side of block not below cam gears and you don't have any notches on the back side of the cam cover to align the cam gears based on themgoldiegill wrote:This link is again confusing and contradicting MMamdouh.

Re: Timing Belt ripped off in Nexia 1.5 DOHC
That's confusing indeed. I think the timing marks setting on this engine is a mix between the Lanos 1.6 DOHC and the Leganza 2.0 DOHC.
What I understand from a drawing in a polish Nexia manual (and I don't undestand this language) is that both cam gear are identical and must be placed with their relative "I" and "E" facing togheter.
To be confirmed too is the possibility that the back of camgears have "keyed I/E" holes to be pinned onto the camchaft like the leganza. TO BE CONFIRMED.
Anyway before cranking make two full turns on the crankshaft to be sure nothing collide.

Re: Timing Belt ripped off in Nexia 1.5 DOHC
I am thinking of an alternative. Can i replace this engine (1.5 DOHC used for Nexia) with very similar (1.5 SOHC used for Cielo) engine?
What changes apart from ECM / Ignition Coil replacement is required?

I can't answer first question.
In addition to ECM/ignition your probably need immobiliser and keys from the donnor too.

Re: Timing Belt ripped off in Nexia 1.5 DOHC
well... as far as i know: the swap is doable the other way around so theoretically you can do that... just compare the head gaskets of both the SOHC and DOHC heads got same dimensions with regards to oil and water ports as well as combustion chamber dimensions/aliment (the 1.5 DOHC head won't fit the 1.5 SOHC as the walls between cylinders are thicker on the 1.6 thus the combustion chambers in the 1.6 head are more spaced than the 1.5 SOHC)
