A/C Removal

Post by BosnianLanos »

My A/C crapped out maybe 2 years back. At first I thought the problem was trivial, but I took it to my mechanic, he tested it and said the compressor was shot. I have never been much for putting used parts on my car, and a new compressor is like $500 bucks, which my car isn't even worth. Besides that, a compressor would most likely put a lot of undue stress on my solid, yet high mileage engine.

So, this weekends project (If I don't get hit by yet another hurricane) is complete removal of the A/C system. If I can't use it, I may as well take 50 pounds off of the car. Besides that, I'll try fixing my heater and compressor and selling all the junk I take off to a car parts recycler

I'm getting rid of the compressor, condensor, and while I'm at it I'll rip out my dash and take out my heater, which is shot (cracked) too (Don't you just love Daewoo quality?).

What I need to know from all of you Daewoo gurus is.

1. Besides compressor, condensor, heater, and ducting are there any more major Ac/heating components I can remove?

2. How can I relieve my refrigerant pressure so I don't get sprayed with that stuff?

3. If I disconnect all of the wires and sensors from these parts, will my ECU go beserk and start putting out all kinds of CELs and sh*t?

4. Mainly, is my theory worth it? How many pounds do all these parts weight and is all the work worth the maybe $100 bucks I can get from the parts recycler?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Damir.

well condensor, compresor, pipes and a AC (err dno how ya say it like a heater) is also mounted inside the car close to the heater. wires wont make much difrence... but i aint sure if you cars computer will complain on the sensor being gone to measure the presure..... you can always plug the sensor in and not having it tuck away somewhere though.

as for AC presure... Well or go to a shop to pull it off (takes 5 mins or so) or you need to disconect the pipes from the pump if you loosen it a bit it will already start blowing yust make sure your hands are gone by then or you will burn yourself

Yeah, timing belt has nothing to do with it... :) my feeble mind knows this much.

I'll try to run the car without the sensors and see what happens.

BTW: One more question, since apparently the condensor is mounted in front of the radiator, is there any other way to remove it besides moving my radiator first, I looked all over, but it seems that it's basically stuck in place...HELP!!
