Hi there people im a new member and aint sure if this is where i ment to me posting.
but the problem is i bought a lanos few weeks ago and been running minted, but i drove it to work yesterday and the engine managment light came on the car started smoking alot more from the exhaust, i took to the garage and they said they will need to remove the head etc. but today they say it could be my ecu which would cost me around 600 pound, which i cant seem to belive because the car was running so sweet, please if anyone can help would be great thanks alot
Surely if there's white smoke, that'd have pretty much NOTHING to do with the ECU seeing as it has no control over coolant burning, or water contaminating th oil etc.
Check your oil cap. Remove it, and look at the underside. It should be a golden dark brown/blacky brown. If there's any white or creamy spots on it you might have a problem.
Damn i hate garages just phoned them and they said they changed plugs, done rocker cover gasket on it, (which i did last weekend) now they saying someone aint feeding the ECU or i will need a new one -.- AHHHHH lol thanks for your help
I was having no use on the phone so got my dad to speak to them, what the problem is one of the injectors are staying open, and they not sure why. at least we down to a problem lol haha

as Pir0 said the ECU would not cause white smoke to come out of the exhaust, it could cause black smoke as the ecu controls the fuel injectors but not white smoke

black= fuel burning
blue=oil burning
white=coolant burning
all they sayin is low compression in cylinoder 3. And one of the injectors are staying open so they think theres a problem with the ecu they says its tellin the injector to stay open
