Re: Brake in Lanos

It doesn't take long to bleed the rears...do the conversion first, drive the car and judge it for yourself. Since Lanos uses 3 different front brake setups, its possible there are slight variances in the master cylinder as well....

Re: Brake in Lanos

but i found an old pic for a lanos with rear disks that have the support bolted to the rear beam and it looks very nice Photo is the rear of Stefan's Astra Mk2 after "cleaning", not one of Lanos. But besides the lack of the rear anti-sway bar, Lanos' axle should be identical. Apparently, there are ...

nubira88 wrote:No a 1.5 single overhead cam will NOT damage the valves when the timing belt breaks
I agree with nubira88. 1.5 SOHC is a non-interfering motor, hence broken timing belt = no bent valves.

Re: Brake in Lanos

Are you trying to ask what kind of brake upgrades are available for the Lanos, or how to change the brakes?

Re: checking valve clearance

With the "standard" set of tools, timing belt/tensioner/water pump is something you can do in about 4-5hrs, without harrying up at all. I would also do the thermostat at the same time. Its all very much straight forward if you follow the manual. I did it last summer without any special tools.

Re: Lightweight steel flywheels

I am not trying to steal the thread, however I did receive a few larger items from UK via parcel2go. I believe they even delivered F28 gearbox for one of the members here.

Then I am 99% certain you have 1.5 OHC motor and it looks like this (perhaps not this pretty and detailed): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/IDW00U/Profile/6.jpg Chances are, your local parts store will not have the gasket you need - in this case ask for the headgasket for 88-92 Pontiac Lemans...

1.5 SOHC does not have the idler pulley and the diagram above is correct.

One easy way to determine if the road noise is caused by faulty bearing is at the corners. Keep the constant speed and take the corner (within a reason, if its the cause of constant speed)... if you can hear change in the sound of the "hum", it is indeed the front bearings. I have never heard of the...

Its absolutely fine, as long as new shocks are used - for "tired" shocks it may be too much to handle new springs. If you are looking for some quasi-sport shocks for your Lanos, I would recommend KYB GR-2.

Educated guess - you would be looking for about 10-12L/100 km city driving, and about 7-8l/100km highway.

I would relate that to the premature brake lock-up problem. I would inspect the following:

- outer tie rod ends (for play)
- inner tie-rod ends (play)
- ball-joints (play)
- anti-sway bar links
- front anti-sway bar bushings
- upper strut mounts (do you hear "knocks" when going over the bumps?
