I think that technically you are correct with (a variation of ) 2 but 1 may be the better option because.. in our cars we are mostly at 90-100% torque whereever you are in the rev range so it's not really a big thing. Power does increase dramatically with revs (almost linearly from 2500 (~40%) to pe...

oops......
Max power at 5800, max torque at 3800- So it goes to the end of the powerband in 'power' mode.

Many thanks. For the MT the service book (Nubira 1.6 and 2.0) says 'if possible, drive in each gear in the low engine speed range (between approx 2000 and 3000 rpm) and maintain an even vehicle speed'. This equates to the 'economy' mode. Max torque in the 1.6 (same engine as Lanos I think) is at 580...

Power button and revs

I have a 2L CDX nubira (manual shift) bit note from my owners manual that the automatic transmission version has a power/economy button which alters (sets) the revs at which the automatic changes its gear. I would be interested to know at what revs an automatic transimission changes gear in both pow...

Fuel economy? I have had the pleasure (!) of owning a 1.6 Nubira and now a 2.0 nubira. Believe me the 2.0 is much more fun to drive and I actually get mores miles to the gallon than I did with the 1.6 - it is so much more powerful in the low engine revs.

buzzing/noisy gear shifter

I drive a nubira CDX with 50k on the clock. At some revs eg ~2k my gear lever seems to vibrate and buzz making a loud noise - at first I thought the noise was from the exhaust. The noise is particularly annoying in gears 1,3, and 5 and not noticeable in gears 2 and 4. If I move the gear shifter slig...

'normal' engine coolant temperatures

The guage on my nubira does not give any numerical indication of temperature, and I can only assume that the middle of the dial is 'normal' and 90 oC. If that is the case then my car generally 'runs cold' since the needle generally sits half-way between this mark and the one immediately to its left....

How did you know your coolant temperature? I've got a nubira which seems to run cold - in 'normal driving' the needle sits half-way between the central line and the one to its left - Is this 'normal'? where was yours running at 55oC?

Thanks

Many thanks - i didn't think of looking there! I went into the back of something with a nubira 1.6 a month ago and just got the 2.0 as a replacement car. The oil filter on the 1.6 is at the front, in the middle. The 2.0 is much more zippy than the 1.6 which always seemed underpowered! My leak is in ...

squeaky suspension

Hi I have a nubira 1.6 SE (1998) which has noisy suspension. When I go over speed bumps I get a squaeky noise at the front and back - it used to be only at the front, so things are getting worse. Are my shocks likely to be shot or will some grease fix it - if so where abouts should I apply it? The c...

I just changed my stock plug wires which must have been shot at 70k miles. I hadn't been aware that they were bad. I noticed immediate improvement with 30-60 mph in gear 3 quicker by about 10%. The make I used were Sovereign in the UK (?31 for Nubira 1.6 set). Details at sovereignltd.com.

Drilled air box

I have a nubira estate 1.6SE and am trying to optimise performance (power). I changed to a K&N panel filter and Bosch super 4 spark plugs but with no real improvements. I am wondering if drilling my air box will have any effect. Has any one tried? I have not removed the air resonator. Also I am usin...
