Hi aaronrus I can't really tell you if there is an easy way to tell which is the exhaust camshaft and which is the intake camshaft. If you read through my "war and peace" effort on my problem "Lanos will not run after rebuild from broken timing belt" in this forum, I simply managed to swap the "whol...

Hi frplymstr When the Check Enging Light comes on, does it stay on or just flicker on? Do you notice any other behaviour when the CEL comes on e.g. air conditioner stops or headlights dim or other electrical type issues? It could just be a loose connection to one of the sensors that effect engine ti...

Hi aaronrus I have a AD16M engine in my Lanos. It is a DOHC engine but you will need to verify which engine you have in your car to make sure the information is useful. You can identify the camshafts by removing the top timing belt cover to expose the camshaft gears on the end of the gears will be s...

Hi aaronrus You asked about the firing order and how to identify whether the camshafts have been correctly replaced. I have a AD16M engine in my Lanos. It is a DOHC engine but you will need to verify which engine you have in your car to make sure the information is useful. You can identify the camsh...

Hi Marcos I am not sure how long you have had the car but when the car is running, especially when you are driving, does the car seem the same as it was before you put it into the garage? Does it sound the same and does it have as much power as before? Does it seem to have as much power going up hil...

Hi frplymstr I have just read down through this thread. Have you tried shorting out the indicator relay to see if the lights indicators come on but not blink? I know you said the hazards work for you. If you short the indicator relay and lights work and if you have replaced the indicator relay and p...

Hi MMamdouh Your question on whether the oil cooler could be used for engine oil is certainly thought provoking. You might need to consider that the oil is a lot thicker than auto transmission oil and is nowhere near as clean or as long living. Also could the cooling process work against the oil and...

Hi Daniel Further to your question about why it worked. I gave up on trying to explain in words and went and found some basic pictures which I have added below in an attempt to show why it nearly works but doesn't and why there is no damage. What this has made me realise is just how lucky I was not ...

Hi azazel19 I will stand corrected but in my experience, you should not loosen them before trying to re-torque them. This just adds to the stress on the threads. If they are already tight then retorquing them will have no effect. Try and make sure you use a quality tension wrench. If you find none o...

Hi 20aveowoo07 You don't need to worry about the belt being tight and loose as long as the tensioner is operating correctly. The tensioner exists to take any slack out of the belt and to keep the timing as exact as possible. Because the crankshaft, cam gears, water pump, idler pulleys and tensioner ...

Hi Daniel This is not a dumbass question and has really got me thinking. I think the answer lies in the fact that the cam lobes are egg shaped and the cam gears only do 1 revolution for every 2 revolutions of the crankshaft (1 complete 4 stroke cycle). Therefore although you expect damage by the inc...
