Maybe is not complet alternator faulty, maybe is just voltage regulator or brushes. Pop-out springs is possible problem. I assume it may be most likely cause of problem you have. And it's not so expensive.

Hell of the job you done
You can reach the cabin filter from engine compartment. Lift up the hood and you wil see on the left side, under the windshield, one plastic cover (cca. 5x20 cm). Unscrew 2 bolts and remove the cover. Now pull out the filter.

I did a peek through the oil-fill opening and noticed that valve-rotators (is that right phrase?) has a radial marks. It's not scratchings, can't feelt it with fingers, just some kind of marks every, say, 1 mm. What is this, and why they occure?

On the firewall, right up in the engibe bay, is it cabin filter? What is these two hoses atached on it? My LHD Leganza is without thats hoses, maybe because I have automatic A/C?

Everything is posible, but! You need, I bellieve, 4 electromotors/actuators and control modul. Don't know does in your car exists places for mounting these actuators. You also need a few levers. Actuators are conected via levers to door for recirculation, open/close central outlets, door for defrost...
