Yeah the electric motor is what we took out and tested with the water,that was the bit that was leaking from the sides when i tried to block off the nozzle.

Hmm,that makes me wonder if any other pumps will work for my application. What about Vauxhall Astra pumps from around mid-1990's? Well we took the whole fuel pump assembly out yesterday and tested the pump on its own by dunking the bottom of it in a bucket of water and it squirted water about 6 feet away.
