Re: Update:Lanos Rebuilt head, parts, tools. Fs

I thought I would inform people of my previous problem. Hopefully no one will repeat my problem, USE COOLENT! I had the Lanos smogged 3-4 months prior to the head gasket blowing! It passed with flying colors, I was proud of driving the car I rebuilt. Which lasted over 2 years, until I had the idle/r...

Update:Lanos Rebuilt head, parts,tools. Fs

So, it looks like I no longer have time to finish my 2000 Lanos. Great little car! I bought used w/bad timing belt and bent valves, I rebuilt it myself and it ran wonderfully on weekend trips etc! I ride a motorcycle on a daily basis, so only used the car for weekend trips and shopping. Unfortunatel...

Blown head gasket, cheap fix

I had a blown head gasket. I bought a new head gasket, pump and pulleys etc. I had someone check the head (it's not warped), good for me! But I have some pitting on the cylinder head around the area, where the gasket blew (near cylinder 3, there's only one large pit that concerns me.)! I was using s...

I'm going to have the head skimmed. Not re-profiled or machined.

What do you guys think? Or should I just clean the cylinder head surface and throw it on?

Naw, I'm just replacing the Head gasket and re-using the exhaust gasket, valve cover gasket etc..... In the last two years I only drove the car 20,000 miles.

Images of both gaskets

Here are both gaskets. I was being cheap, I just bought the head gasket. Should have bought the complete kit, w/ bolts.

Yeah, I bought a replacement water pump and timmimg belt. I don't think anything else is damaged, when I pulled the dipstick it looked normal. T The dipstick didn't have that moca color, which would indicate water mixed with oil. I even drove it 1//4 mile after adding more water. And still no water ...

Update and question Lanos 1.6, water/steam from exhaust

I rebuilt my 2000 1.6 Lanos head with new valves/water pump/timming belt over 2 years ago. 5 months after the rebuilt , I developed a small water leak. last week I removed the cylinder head and found the head gasket blew at cylinder 3. After examining the graphite gasket I noticed the gasket materia...

I ask, because it was the only code I had before losing water! my 2000 Lanos 1.6, now blows water vapors out of the exhaust. But no water in my oil? I drove it a mile, after adding water again. I checked the oil again, black! No moca milk shake or water drops. I'm told I blew a head gasket. About 2 ...

Code 0420, What damage can it do?

I had a problem code 0420, I didn't fix it. Could this have led to a blown head gasket? What happens when P0420 is not fixed?

Hose on the left.....

My 2000 Lanos 1.6 had a burnt/holed hose too! When the oil is not changed often/never, oil will vaporize and burn the to hose. The oil vapor will also gunk up the sensor in the throttle body! The dirty sensor will throw a code.

Problems

It's definitely water going out my exhaust! The reserve is dry! Blown head gasket or cracked head? Should I just replace the head gasket again and cross my fingers? I had a p0240 code, before. I just ignored it. Now it has p420 and a code for miss fire on cylinder 3. Or should I add sealer stuff in ...

Lanos, white smoke!

2000 lanos 4-door, white smoke seems like water! But the oil doesn't show any milk shake!

What does this mean???

I rebuilt the head with new valves and cylinder head 1.5 years ago.
