My 2001 1.6 did the EXACT same thing, went from 270 to 220 mpg and had a misfire code. It was after I changed the timing belt / head / water pump. It turned out to be the crank sensor. The sensor sucks and will not throw a code until its pretty much dead. Until it does you will get a misfire code af...

It's your timing belt. It might look good on the top but if you take the bottom cover off you will see that the crank has stripped about 8 teeth off the belt. When you were driving and hearing the ticking noise you were probably running with 1 or 2 teeth missing and then finally ripped enough off to...

Well... I've replaced my fuel filter and at a test of 80mph, I got no misfire detection. My theory is that the injectors just weren't getting enough fuel at around 70mph or so due to a dirty filter. Seems to run a little better though, so I'm guessing that even if it isn't the problem (as in the pr...

You are going to have to take that pulley off. Get an impact wrench. Or, get a breaker bar and wedge it somewhere sturdy then bump the starter.

Sounds like someone changed the belt without bothering with the other service items... Sucks when that happens.

They are very hard to get to but yes, you do have to loosen all of them. You will also want to replace the pump along with the gasket while you are at it.

The allen head screws have to be accessed through holes in the rear timing belt cover.

I have noticed the same thing on my 1.6 lanos. I was going to put in an oil catch can between the valve cover vent and the air intake to see just how much bad stuff is in there. I got about 2.5 feet of black hose and put it on but didn't put the catch can in yet because I couldn't find one. Well, ab...

Mine does the same thing even after a new coil pack plugs and wires. My coil pack was bad so I had to replace it anyway, the plugs and wires had 75k miles on them so I needed to replace them too... Someone spill the beans on what is required for the D16 modification for the 1.6l. I cant believe how cheap those headers are.

That makes more sense, Mmamdouh doesn't have VGIS with the 1.5 so he is able to take advantage of the higher flow right?

High flow air filters help more in larger engines at higher rpm. I am not trying to burst anyones bubble, just sharing my personal experience with my lanos 1.6 compared to my small block chevy 350 I have in my truck. I put a cone on that and the difference was night and day so I thought the same wou...

Put the stock air box back on and give it another shot. I did some testing with a cone and found out that low end torque went away with it on. I started putting tape on the filter until I found a sweet spot and found that by the time I got the low end torque back I only had about 2 inches of the con...
