WTF..... that would be one strange alliance.... it would probably throw GMDAT into a strange position.

I wonder if this is all GM or just GM Europe/GM Asia that is considering a joint venture.

GM should simply shut down it's North American plants and build everything in Korea.... they'd decrease labor costs to 1/10 of what it is now.

Hell.... get rid of the North american crap and bring in Opel cars instead.

Sure it sounds bad saying they should shut down plants in North America but the autoworkers are way overpaid for what they do in my opinion.

Only way to break a union is to shut it all down.

Sure it would hurt their image but they'd be better off restructuring now than continuing to loose billions a year.

Whether jobs are cut due to restructuring or jobs cut due to the company going bankrupt it doesn't make much of a difference..... at least with restructuring they have the oportunity to come back to the USA/Canada and restart plants a few years down the road.

$26 an hour?

Dude... the average assembly line wage in 2004 was $31.35

Here is a great comparison showing GM vs Toyota

http://www.npr.org/news/specials/gmvstoyota/

GM is getting their ass handed to them when you throw in the Health Benifits package.... $1525 of each car sold goes towards the GM Union Benifits package!!!!

All things put together.... GM pays $73.73 per hour for each worker

Hmmm.... what do you think the average Korean GMDAT worker is paid??

$5.33 an hour according to an "Asia times" article.

Hmmmm.... $73.73 or $5.33.... I wonder which one they will choose.

neways, GM owns 1/3 of Toyotas factories and cars as we speak, its just a matter of time before GM pisses off another interprise or becomes a monopoly over renault or nissan :P thats just my two cents but neways..that is gonna be one messed up joint ... and 5.33 haha

It's all of GM  I think Nissan and Renault just want Vito power..

Also Chris.. It would be funny that Renault would own Koreas 2 Top auto companies 1) Daewoo 2) Samsung Motors.. Renault already owns 90% Samsung Motors Koreas # 2 Car Company

Ryan.... Hyundai/Kia is way bigger than Daewoo or Samsung

Personally... I think a merger of Nissan/Renault/GM would end in disaster.... Opel and Renault would definitly clash.... and I won't even talk about the uprising the british would have if a Renault was badged as a Vauxhall.

If they only had two or three Renault/Nissan vehicles in the GM lineup it wouldn't be too bad.... get rid of the G6, Cobalt but keep the GMDAT cars.
