1998 Lanos mystery part.

Post by bobbysdad »

Can someone help me identify what this part is please?
My car got broken into, and the shroud around the Steering Column got totally trashed.

Fortunately, it wasn't stolen as the steering lock held tight, but some wiring has been ripped out.

There is a pair of wires hanging freely, and, [amongst the carnage] I found this 'plug' which I believe to be originally connected to the previously mentioned pair of wires.
I'm so so sorry, but I'm away from the car right now, and don't remember what colours the two wires are..... :(
.... but I'm sure they were connected to this plug attachment.

Where does it go and where do these two wires connect to? Which colour goes to which pin number. [there being a pin #1, and a pin #2 on this connector]
Does it clip on to the rear of the ignition switch? .... or does it go somewhere else?

Lucky for me, the car still starts using my key, and the steering lock still fully functional, so the car is still drivable.

Can someone help me ID this thing please? As you can see, it is black with some sort of yellow plastic retainer clip partially running around it. [would it have anything to do with the Airbag by any chance?]

Cheers to all.....

I think it's the connector for the stop lamp switch.
Here is the switch.

If only two wires position of them is irrelevant. In the documentation I find pin #1 Brown/Black and pin #2 Red.

Thank you Daniel.
Yes, that's exactly what it was.

I did have the front and rear right side windows broken out on mine back in 2010 but nothing was stolen, the car wasn't even trashed (other than broken glass everywhere).

A Lanos owner in Texas not only had their Lanos stolen, but the thief lead the cops on a chase, rolled, and completly totaled it too. Every Window was broken out both bumpers gone.
