Rack problems

Post by wolfhound »

Howzit guys

Got a major problem with the steering on the Woo.

Its got power steering b 4 i explain any more.

Picked up a major "Clunk" noise from it over the last few weeks and the steering got more and more vague. i.e. it would almost wander over the road whilst driving.

Anyway i jacked it up on the weekend and the 2 rods that go back to the steering rack seem to have play, at the point where is goes into the rack. I can literally wiggle it up and down, is this normal? has anyone else had similar problems ?

Nope. If the steering arm is moving within the 'rack, replace the rack. If the rack moves, tighten the rack mounts.

This means you "should" do an alignment, but you can at least get it close to drive, or if you are good you can set the toe good enough you don't need an alignment. Me, I "read" the tires and do minute adjustments myself.
