Matiz Headlights

Post by Desperate Dan »

We have a 2001 Matiz SE+ which was bought new in the UK. We exported it shortly afterwards to where we now live in France, but apart from its french registration, it's still in its original RHD configuration, including the headlights & rear lights.

Having just ordered a new car for the wife, we have decided rather than scrapping the Matiz (which has only done 33,000 miles) we're going to donate it to our son, who lives in Germany. However... the Germans being more anally retentive than the French will insist that the lights are changed so that they meet EC LHD requirements.

First of all... is there any way of converting the existing lights to LHD without having to replace them?

If not has anyone any ideas as to where I can source some European LHD headlights. I have found some on Ebay but the guy wants far too much for them.

Car is a Mk II Matiz by the way, first registered in March 2001

Many thanks.

Unfortunately the Matiz is fairly rare on this forum, I've yet to meet a Matiz owner here.

So I'm afraid most of us won't be much of a help.

Usually with RHD/LHD you have to replace the entire headlight assembly.

Quite often there will be specific codes in the glass that the Germans will look for.

Thanks for your reply. I thought as much! On my MG all I have to do is move a lever at the back!
Ah well, back to the drawing board.

Have a look on ebay, there are sometimes LHD headlight units on there.
Cargo cultism is a beautiful thing as long as you never fall for it.
