F20/D20/F28 Revisited

Post by daewooluvr »

Ok guys, here it goes... I want to know which cars have these transmissions and any other info on them. Also if anyone knows of other codes for these transmissions that would be great (ex. TH-125)

F16CR (close ratio)
---------------
Opel Kadett 1.6-1.3 / Vauxhall Astra 1.6-1.3
Pontiac Lemans/Daewoo Racer/Lanos

F16WR (wide ratio, same as F20)
---------------
Early Opel Kadett GSI 8V/ Vauxhall Astra Mk2 GTE 8V(C20NE)

F20
---------------
Opel Kadett/Vectra/Calibra 2.0 16v (C20XE)
Vauxhall Astra/Calibra/Vectra 2.0 16v (C20XE)

D20
---------------
Daewoo Nubira 2.0 16v (C20SED, T20SED, U20SED)
Daewoo Leganza 2.0 2.2 16v (C20SED, U20SED, U22SED, T22SED)

F28
--------------
Opel Kadett/Astra 200TS 2.0 16v Turbo (C20LET) FWD
Opel Kadett "SuperBoss" 2.0 16v Turbo (C20LET) FWD
Opel Calibra/Vectra 2.0 16v Turbo (C20LET) 4x4
Vauxhall Calibra/Vectra 2.0 16v Turbo (C20LET) 4x4
*notes:
- The F28 FWD is rarely found... most guys do a FWD conversion on the 4x4 F28.
- The 200TS is only avalibe in south africa, the Superboss was a Limited Edition.

I'll keep adding to the top here with everyone's response and make it sticky!

Not that I could find.... GsiTurbo had to bring one in from Europe.

Unfortunatly the Pontaic Lemans/Optima seem to be the only cars that cross over but they only came with the F16

You can use the D20 noted above, same as the Opel/Vaux F20.
As for power, there's a few throttle bodied Vauxhalls with 200-230hp that use them, but they have less torque than a turbo engine..........
3rd gear seems to cause the biggest problems on these 'boxes with engines that have a large amount of torque. It's not that it's weak as such, but it's the first gear that the high hp cars get decent traction in so they get bigger shock loads than 1st and 2nd where the tyres just spin.

The number in the gearbox code is supposed to mean the amount of torque they are rated for ie. F/D20 = 200lbft, F28 = 280lbft.
I've no confirmation of this however.............

I was loking at a 95 Saab the other day. Bellhousing looks quite similar to the Opel engines.

(???)

They now have a 6-speed.

I was looking at the Saab as well but it's so hard to tell from drawings.

Nobody in Europe has tried it with a EURO ECOTEC (our engines) so I have to think that it won't work.

So, how do these transmissions designations (i.e. F20, F28) relate the the U.S.-spec transmissions, commonly referred to as the "Isuzu" 5-speed and the Getrag 282. Both of these transmissions were available in the "Opel"-engined Sunbird (n/a and turbo) and Grand Am (turbo only). The Isuzu is a light duty 5-speed used in the n/a cars and the Getrag 282 was used in the turbo cars. The Getrag was also used, with two different bellhousings, in the Quad4 cars and "corporate" V-6 cars.

Are these the same transmissions? THAT'S what I want to know.

Hello

I?ve heard that an F-25 (a 5 speed Wide), can be found in Saab 900, its even the same chasis than a Opel Vectra A or Vauxhall Cavalier in UK, and this two vehicles came with that transmission only with the V6 engine (C25XE).

I really think the 4cyl. Saab has the same bellhousing. Which is interesting b/c the engine looks similar, too. More of a "cousin" than a brother.
