Lanos, Lemans, Optima disk conversion

what you get from me is a caliper mount in .5" (50.8mm) mild steel.
to that you have to add calipers assembly, wheel bearings and rotors from a '93 Saturn, or other like models

the drums on the lanos are a .5" narrower then the rotor setup without the rotor mount so no spacers or track width adjustment is needed and you get to keep your 4x100 bolt pattern.

the bracket set is $60 and the rotor assembly is up to whatever you want to spend. no matter what you spend in parts this kit is a better price and quality then the one sold on Mantapart and you don't have to convert to 5 lug pattern.

i'll post pics here soon of both the bracket and the step by step conversion.

gse_turbo wrote:so here it is and it's not from an opel. ALL these parts are found in the U.S. and should be in Canada. what i'm building off of is a rear disc setup from a '93 saturn.
the upsides of this conversion is:
you keep 4x100 bolt pattern
you don't need to order repacement parts from Europe
there are rotor upgrades
you keep your track width
it's vertually a dirrect fit
parts are cheep
sealed whell bearing w/ seperate rotor, no repacking bearing with a brake service
hand brake in caliper, no "shoe in hat design" like the nudira

but for all the upsides, and some i've forgoten, there is one down side, you will need to adjust you bolt hole a little but i'll go over that.

here's what you get in my kit. keep in mind what you wiil get is a shotpeened and coated version, these are prototypes.

here's what you need to add to the setup, 8 10mmx50mmx1.25 bolts and lock washers to mount everything using factory nuts, 4 3/8x2'' bolts and nuts for moch-up and all the brake components.
Image

here's were the moch-up comes in, using the 3/8 bolts, mount everything and get it tight. everything should mount flush but these bolts wont be sitting straight, these are just for alignment. the holes are off just slightly, this is when you need to adjust the mounting holes. use a 13/32 drill bit and take off a little from both the bearing and mount until the drill sts staight. do this one by one replacing the 3/8 bolts with the 10mm bolts as you go.

after that your done, you can mount everything else up.
if you've waited as long as i have for all wheel disc brakes or price a setup out of from euro parts then you'll thins this is a beautiful thing.

hopefully someone out there enjoys this!

Is there any chance that this would work on an 04-06 Aveo?

well this one wont work on the Aveo but there has been talk of putting a kit or something together but i might not be able to get around to developing that too soon because of other projects.

if this is an item that you'd like to buy several of then i would be glad to push up the priority.

just noticed a few things, this conversion will take you from a lug bolt to a lug nut in rear.

The assembly that the parking brake attaches to, is that part of the caliper or a separate part?

you are right, you will have bolts in the front and nuts in the back but I recommend converting the front to nuts as well. the bolts are a pain in the arse!

the bracket is a separate piece that bolts to the caliper.

So far I'm not having much luck finding the calipers and brackets needed.

But does that include the needed brackets and such to make this conversion?

Also need the parking brake cable. Do you need one for each side or only on one side?

So far I found the rotors, hub, and pads that I want.

1 cable does both sides. It splits, usually underneath the heatshield in the middle. The rubber grommet thing slides into a hook then from there there's two cables which run along to the back of the car, and in some cases the rear suspension arm has a loop for the handbrake cable to go through aswell.

I'm surprised at how much this is actually costing you. Did you buy all the parts new? I got my disks/hubs/pads/calipers and even a suspension arm for DIRT cheap, off a friend. Extremely greatful for it, especially now i see these prices.

Hey I have another question. Did you have to use the brake lines from the Saturn or reuse the Lanos ones?

The reason I ask is because I have SS braided brake lines and would hate to have to replace them with rubber ones for a saturn.
