Got my A into gear this weekend as we had a public holiday yesterday.
Hoisting the motor up into the sky, with my son doing a quick quality check

Image

Once if found the sweet spot and the motor slotted into the gearbox, i bolted it in and started putting all the ancillaries on.

Image

I also bought some new injectors Ford ones, F87E D2B & 3181 865 are the numbers on them.
Image

Hopefully get a chance this coming weekend to get her finished.

Took the car for a spin on Sunday, woke up the neighboors as i cut the downpipe off to enlarge the outlet flange at the turbo.

Cost me R400 or about $50US to get the new stainless plate cut.

The previous one only had a 50mm hole in it, WAY to small, the new one has a 63mm hole + a 50 mm semi circle cut out on the top for the waste gate to vent.

I'm taking tomorrow morning off work to get the exhaust welded back on.

Pictures to follow.

I just picked this up this weekend for R8000 EDIT (about 750 us$) - exclding the wheels and tyres.

I wonder where is could put it's engine.................. Hmmmmmm ....................

It's a Big Boss, which was good for 115kW at its time, it was the model just before the Super Boss came out. 115 = +- 154bhp
Motor looks really good apart from an oil leak, but i think i might strip it down anyway .....just to be on the safe side.

This was a good read Sean... quite interesting. What are you using for the fuel management? I either missed it in this thread, or it was not mentioned - just curious. And with regards to the purchase of the C20XE, that was a nice move. Perhaps you did upset someone, but if that person was serious about buying the Kadett for parts/whole, he would have finalised the deal before. Good find IMO.

Nought, i still got the Wisecos - putting the Cometic head gasket on this weekend with the new rings i got from Garrett.

Gonna run the turbo motor until i get the XE sorted. Plan is to haul out the complete management system and wiring and motor etc out of the Opel and slap the whole lot into the Woo.

Then take all the stuff from the Woo and stick it into one of these.

That only weighs 630 kgs - should be fun with the 1600 turbo motor which is good for between 140 and 160 kW.

Thanks man.

Am running a locally made system, called a Dicktator - seams to work ok, it's all hand made stuff - nothing fancy on the PCB itself, but the software is quite user friendly. quite popular with the local drag racing okes (local SA slang for guys  ). its biggest downfall is that it cannot control the stepper motor used in the GM idle control valve - it seams to work VW ones quite well, so i may bolt a VW throttle body to the Woo plenium chamber in the future.

Transmission is the std 5 speed. D something or other

Bad news, i started the Turbo motor on the weekend - no smoke - no blow by - BUT either i have detonation as i back off the accellerator OR there is a small amount of piston slap.

Good news, I bought a new dizzy cap and rotor arm for the 2 litre 16 valve Opel motor - and hey presto it fired right up, no blow by and no smoke from the exhaust - in fact apart from the oil leak which i think is the sump gasket - the motor sounds sweet. So if the Turbo motor DOES in fact have piston slap - i.m basically just gona have to swap the 2 over and forget about the whole turbo woo thing. Pity but i need a reliable daily driver now.

I took the car to the machine shop and it def aint piston slap, they think i have a bearing knock and quite possibly got sold the incorrect sized big ends - the crank is 10/10 so its time to drop the sump AGAIN ...... the joys of modified cars hahahaha

Well, the box said 10 thou, but the bearings were std. luckily i didn't drive it to far - just ot the machine shop and back home again.

Bought the correct bearings and all is perfect. just done 1200 kays (750 miles) so its time to drop out the SAE40 running in oil and change filters and put in some decent oil.

On the brake front, my mate Rich Wint (177kW Astra 200 TS) help me make some solid billet alloy brakes to mount the Brembo 4 pots -

Image

All worked out pretty well with the modded Zaphira 280mm disks - until i tried to bolt on the wheel - see below. looks like spacers are gona be needed.

Image

imust admit though, they look pretty hot, i think if it wasn;t for the cost of the OPC 308mm disks i would stick those on instead of the 280mm and it might just clear up the issue of the wheel hitting the caliper.

Right, I got hold of a set of GTC/Corsa OPC 308mm front disks. The 280's aint going on afterall :D

Best bit is the 308mm ones cost me R1400 for the set - thats us$140.
