Plans are a color change to a Bordeaux red (Vauxhall mk2 Astra Champion Edition):

And a engine rebuild, almost all parts have been sitting inside the car for a while now.

Lets hope I can get it on the road soon.

I know it's not with the mk2 theme... but have you had a look at the mazda mica paints?

The velocity red mica is absolutely stunning. Very red with a very distinct sparkle in the sun...
Mazda are making the nicest looking factory paints at the moment.

Image

There's also a copper red mica that is similar to the bordeaux.

It might be easier to get mazda paint compared to mk2 paint

That is hilarious, I posted this exact picture as the color I wanted to paint my car.

So you want Silver, I want Bordeaux Red, too bad there is Ocean between us or I'd say " let's switch "

HAHAHAHA Chris,

Good to hear from you.

Yeah mate too bad theres a bloddy Ocean in the way!

Here's an update:

Lucky me I was able to found the front wings and a bonnet at a "chop chop" or salvage yard like you guys call it.

These pictures are a couple of days old, i havent been to the shop but the owner wrote me that the car should be on the bare metal already.

The engine, well the builder is sick and hasnt work on it. Today I was at the shop and he told me that the block will be appart tomorrow.

Unfortunately they seem to lost all the head parts (lifters, valve springs, valves, etc), the head was taken appart a while back. :(

I dont blame them, I blame myself by not securing those rare parts at my place.

As far im aware i've the only XE engine overhere (only a Lacetti touring car has another one here). So, may need to buy a complete head overseas... all i have is an empty head.

Will keep you posted.

Heres a debate Ive in my head... i've been offered a rather cheap FWD SR20DET and Ive been thinking a lot on swapping it into the mk2.

SR20DET into the MK2.... the SR20DET is the Nissan 2.0 turbo engine found in the Pulsar and other FWD Nissans... the engine can be found quite easy... in size is very similar to the XE/LET....

My XE is dead and needs a rebuild, there're zero XE/LETs around, I've a deep feeling for the uniqueness of the engine but i cant stand it anymore for the lack of parts, everything has to be ordered.

On the other hand there's a lot of parts for the SR20 here.

The electronics will be the same basically since i've the standalone ecu, only custom shafts and mounts will have to be made and pipings/intercooler.

What do you guys think?

It's funny to think that when you look back on the history of this forum, people were asking about putting a sr20 in their woo (mostly Australians if my memory serves me correctly)... This was before the link to opel was really realised and confirmed about engine fitment.

I could say with certainty that it would be a unique project... But one fraught with the difficulties that come with being a pioneer.

Are the saab 2.0/2.3t engines available where you are? Might be an easier way of going about it...

Or if you want a challenge... you could do something way out there http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=182423
