GSi Turbo Project

Post by PrecisionBoost »

Here is a break down of project GSi Turbo .... 1989 Passport Optima

Most of the original work was done by the original owner GSiTurbo with my assistance.
I started to inject cash into the project in October 2007 and purchased the car shortly afterwards.
Since then I've sorted out the main electrical problems, installed a new turbo and converted it to an externally wastegated system.
Thus far I've done a "road" tune and still have it set at 10PSI of boost.

Originally it was going to the fellow with the "Funbird" project, but after discussions about priorities I eventually sold it to his good friend, who also helps with the funbird project
http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtop ... 15&t=14548

MSP6 is the person who will be doing a significant portion of the work ( I will help as well ) so I imagine he will be posting pictures and posting information.

The car is up and running with a C20GET and a custom manifold I originally made for the Funbird and it pulls very nicely throughout the powerband at 10-12psi of boost.

In the end they will continue on with the car, taking care of it and making it fast again.

I simply lack the time to put into the car at the moment and given the choice between focusing my limted time on the GSi or my Calibra, the Calibra won.

I still have a Pontiac Lemans chassis completely stripped and awaiting a full roll cage.

I still have a low mileage Lanos ( my original car that brought me to this site ) which I bought back from the person I sold it to many years ago.

At the end of the day, the GSi will get the time and money it needs to get it back out on the road and I will be moving back to using my Calibra as my daily driver once I sell my Golf TDI

I only listed a few of my vehicles on my signature, in reality I am just finally now getting down to a point where I have less than 10 vehicles.

My daily drivers also include a 2010 Mercedes R350 diesel, a 2010 Golf TDI diesel, a 2005 Chev 2500HD diesel truck and a 1994 RHD Japanese mini truck.

I'm sure the car is going into good hands, they know how rare it is in North America ( since this is the rare Passport Optima ) and I'm sure they will give the project what it needs to become a fast nimble car again.

I also have an agreement that I have first rights of repurchase if they decide to sell it in the future.

Well, it would seem it's likely that the car is coming back into my possession ( with some damage ) but I hope to have the time to get her back up and running nicely with the 8V C20GET this summer.
