I rock a "little" intercooler too :)

Not having to pressurise a huge intercooler helps for quick pressure building! 8) You've just gotta make sure you get one that is highly efficient and well placed ;)

200 TS intercooler

Post by wolfhound »

Yeh intercooler is small but quite thick, it came of my mates Opel Astra 200 TS (160kw at the flywheel as standard)

He upgraded to a much larger beast and gave me his original one - I thought hell, if it can work on a 2lt 16v it can work on my 1600.

I will get a bigger one stuck in later - when funds permit.

Glad you like the shots.

Will get more sorted in the next week or so.

Two sets of pistons down !

Third set went in this week and the problems have hopefully now been storted.
Std top ring gap at .3mm was to small and has been doubled to .6mm
Actuator was not working and allowing over boost.
Have also added a 1.6mm deck plate now as well as the shortened rods to drop compression down even more to allow me to run at .7 in the future.

Keep fingers crosses that she starts up and runs this weekend.

Third set on way out

Post by wolfhound »

Well, I havn't updated you guys on the Turbo Lanos in a while, but last week I picked up a slight miss at idle, so out came the plugs and I did a compression test, No 1 and 4 were 1200 whilst No 2 and 3 were around 1000.

I then replaced the plugs and started the motor and noticed a blue tinge to the exhaust smoke, I reved the car and thats when I saw the James Bond type smoke screen.

Looks like more bust pistons, SOOOOOO i bit the bullet and ordered a set of Wiseco's from IPP in the states. They were the only guys that had a listing for the 79.5mm 1.6XE pistons in low compression for the turbo.

Posted to me they cost nearly 5 times that of the std Woo pistons but at least this time I can run a (non lag inducing) 8.5-1 compression instead of the (sorta Woo piston friendly) 7.5-1 that I am currently running. ANd apparently they are bullet proof.

Biggest bummer is I have to wait over a month to get the pistons made and shipped from the US to South Africa.

Will drop in more news once the pistons have arrived.

I feel your pain on the lead time!!! Hopefully it really is only a bit over 4 weeks....

I'm beginning to become a follower of the "do it once, do it right" school of thought.

Sounds like you'll be rocking a quality setup! Please post photos when they arrive!

Put the stand alone like VEMS, bigger injectors like 630cc or 1000cc, and you will not have this problems...

I like the setup... :)
