I seem to have come across an abundance of X18XE and Z18XE engines on ebay for around ~£100 - I am very tempted!

With 123bhp out the box, and endless tuning capabilities (turbo kits, throttle bodies, cams, exhausts, etc - all readily available) this would be a nice little match for the Lanos.

Any other thoughts? Ideas? Anyone?

if you do the Z18 swap I'll contribute all I can to make it happen and support the conversion and research of performance products.

when I was researching my swap I was lookign very closely at the z18xe

very close torque and power to the dtec and lower fuel consumption

the only reason i didn't go for it because in aus, the z18xe1 is the engine they used and it has drive by wire

No, I straight swapped it for a BMW E36 316i Compact.

Although, I have a feeling I will be back here one day with another Daewoo ;-)

Kinda glad I swapped it now, because with new MoT test laws in the UK coming in next month I'd have had to spend more time and money on the car than it was actually worth - even the parts on the car were worth more than the car itself - making it very uneconomical to keep.

The only other option would have been to scrap it and receive around £100 for it. Either way I would have been out of pocket, which is why I'm glad it's gone to someone now who has a full workshop at their disposal and a spare car to use while work is carried out on the Lanos.

From what he's relayed back to me in the next 1 to 2 months it's gonna be stripped down completely, everything fixed up and possible have an X18XE dropped in. I have told him to check out this forum for advice and any help, so don't be surprised if you see my old Lanos pop up under a new user.

I wouldn't mind a Nexia, but they are a dying breed here in the UK (in all honesty, I don't think they sold more than a couple hundred in England). It's near-on impossible to find one at all, let alone finding a really good condition Nexia.
As for the C20LET... It would be easier to source a Saab 2.3 turbo ;)

It would be annoying to wire it up though... Maybe a 2.3 with standalone engine management would be nicer

Or a lanos with the 3.0 from an omega
