Aveo on CNG

Post by genie47 »

This is my Aveo.

Modified to run on Compressed Natural Gas. So the car is now bifuel.

Here are the pictures.

The boot/trunk or what's left of it.

The fibreboard shield lowered to reveal the cylinder.

The injectors, fill port (with red cap) and pressure gauge.

The pressure gauge. The 12 o'clock position is 200bar. The highest it should achieve. The green thingy obscuring it is the electronics that feed back to the cabin LED indicator. Needle points to just slightly above 100bar (half filled cylinder).

Control unit strapped next to the battery.

The fill port, pressure gauge and injectors again

The in-cabin LED pressure display and control switch.

The green CNG decal at the back. Another one is in the front but who wants such a sticker. Minus 3-5bhp. This decal is required by law. Just in case this car gets into a serious accident, the fire services would be alerted.

The slashes fuel costs by a lot. Gives me USD2.63/100km. It costs me USD7.89/100km for gasoline. The cylinder holds around 12kg of gas.

The kit is a sequential gas injection kit from OMVL.

Dang... good idea to make an economical car even more economical. I'd love to see where you got the kit from...got a link or something?

Also, has anyone done a Propane bi-fuel Aveo yet?

Sorry I wasn't tracking this thread.

OK the kit is OMVL from Italy. The cylinder is Galileo from Argentina. 60L water capacity. 10kg of CNG.

Mileage I am getting with this car. 10kg of gas gets me 235km. Yes the range is limited and you have to visit the refill station often. For me is every three days. I cover 500-600km a week.

How much for the gas? It is SGD1.28/kg. 92 octane gasoline is sold at SGD1.973/L here.
