P0108 fault code - MAP sensor, high input

Post by Rodd1s »

This is the weirdest thing I've ever come across...

A couple weeks ago I temporarily put a cone filter (with an admittedly questionable pipe) on while I took the standard airbox off to "operate" on it.

While having the cone filter with a short, kinked pipe I got a CEL flash up after flooring the throttle.

Checked it - p0108, cleared it, thought nothing of it, maybe just a glitch.

Same happened the following day when I put my foot down - checked it, p0108 again.

For sanity's sake, put the airbox back on and nothing.

Now, I know some manufacturers use some sort of intelligent intake manifold and piping design to "create" boost (usually to the order of 1 or 1.5 psi effectively - see Mazda RX8) - is it possible that I've stumbled upon a magic design that does this? Although I can't quite work out how this would be possible by changing the pipework BEFORE the throttle body, as it's usually an inlet manifold design that works on the airwaves.

I have yet to put the filter back on with a scan gauge hooked up to see if the MAP genuinely sees boost. If it does I'll report back.

But, in the meantime - has anyone else ever seen anything like this?

Strange P0108 indication. Do you have the original 1bar MAP sensor?

Yep, all original.

It's absolutely fine now with the stock airbox back on again.
