Ecu swap from c20let x20xev z20let work for u20sed?

Post by 7-even »

I'm wondering if its possible to swap in an ECU from one of he other vauxhall motors? Has anyone ever done this? Will it work? Do they have the same ECU plugs as the u20?

no, completely different
well it is for the c20sed anyway... my daewoo 2.0 uses GMDelco management whereas the opels use bosch

I'm guessing the reason you want to swap ecu is because you want access to flash tuning like EDS-IPF? the hassle you will go through (and price to get a loom and computer from the UK) will mean it will be just as easy to install a piggyback or standalone. plus aftermarket management will be a lot more versatile and you will end up with a better tune anyway

A while back I had a conversation with a company in the UK about this. I've ben trying to post the messages here for a couple days now but it's not working. I'll send you the transcript in an email. maybe you can try to post them here with greater success.

Sounds good Garrett. benzino yes it's pretty much for ease of tuning. Ill have to post a link to the page. There's a few cars on HPTuners site that are a close match. If I could swap ecu's the car could be tuned and trouble lights could be shut down. Then the car would be able to pass inspection without the trouble of having to swap parts in and out of the car. There would also be more control over the car than with just using a piggypack. I wouldn't need the whole harness if the ecu plugs are a match. If there's a difference in wire placement I could move the wires around in the plug.

I can't speak about the GM line in this regard but I can say that the Lancer and Evo ECU's use the same plug and same looking ecu but the wire pinout is different. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the in the GM lineup.

Interesting. Ill have to look into this. Then the question becomes do we think the lancer ECU would be capable of running the reno/forenza?

Sorry, I meant the non-turbo Lancer and turbo Evo use the same connectors as ones other. But they don't share parts with GM platforms.

Oh ok. So if there's a diffent tunable ecu that's has the same plugs to the Reno/forenza the ecu's could be swapped and tuned. I would think as long as the ecu has the same wiring inputs as the reno/forenza and came with plugs that were cut from the harness you could just put the reno/forenza ecu wires into the other ecu's plugs. So, it just needs to be another ecu with the same input signals that's tunable and comes with the plugs. Any codes that pop can be shut down by the tuner. Doesn't sound to hard lolol. Do you know anything about the Astra 1.4?
