Springy radiator/heater hose clamps...tool?

Post by MatesLeganza »

general issue...these springy hose clamps which have now taken over from more elaborate gear-clamps..they are damnable things to handle with pliars or multis, especially the big main radiator hose ones...

is there any specialised tool to handle them better than ordinary pliars..?

pliers to get them off and replace them all with worm drive...

spring clamps are only good fresh from the factory as they don't re-seat properly once you keep taking them on and off.
you should be able to do the whole engine bay for less than $15 if you're so inclined, otherwise just replace the big rad hose clamps, if you have a bunnings or similar near you they sell them pretty cheap and they're good wide band clamps... you won't regret it, trust me :)

Ive actually got a certain number of old Utilux/tridon gear clamps various sizes in a paint can, whenever I see the things thrown away on junk within reach i always undo them and save them,

but even if needing to handle the springy ones , is there no custom tool ever came out to handle them...?

they can be assholes in particular say, in a Leganza trying to remove the hoses on firwall side of engine with rotten access, and the nubs on the clamp have also been installed facing up and away from your slim access window..if you had something which grabs them more securely than plain pliars, as they have to grab brake-springs better with, for example, it would make a difference..

I figured radiator joints must have some scientific improved way to deal with the things..
