New Nubira owner here

Post by 2Tim215 »

Hi all. I'm new here and have just bought a 2000 model Daewoo Nubira 2.0L CDX (16 valve) with 190000 km on the clock.
I knew when I bought it that there were a few problems but being a diesel 4X4 man I have never worked on these engines before so need some advise.

The previous owner had it over heat and blew the head gasket and this was repaired over 3 months ago. I bought this last night and drove it home at an average of 140-150km/hr for 350 kms with no heating problems so assume by this that there is no serious problem with the head. I am however hearing a tik/tik sound from the engine that one mechanic has told me is the cams because the head was not skimmed and "pressed" properly??? The other two mechanics I saw say hydraulic lifters. The engine does sound a little rough though and I am leaning more to the hydraulic lifters being the problem.

The other thing I noticed is that it occasionally drops revs when I brake with the clutch in - almost to 200-400 revs and then picks back up to idling at 900.

The last thing is the car has mags and low profile tires and I am hearing a squeak from the left front. I had all the rims straightened today and this has noticeably improved the ride and the squeak but it is still there - do I need to replace the shocks as they have never been replaced?

Have just discovered that it is the drivers rear wheel that is squeaking - Bearings possibly? Have a set of new bearings that came with the car.

Thanks

Tim

are you able to drop the sump and check/clean the sludge out? These engines are notorious for blocking the oil pickup with sludge and the noise at the top of the engine could indicate the beginning of this... mine needed cleaning at 193000km so you're pretty close

with the rev drop, clean the throttle body and check the vacuum hoses
also, is the squeak there only when it's cold?

good luck and let us know how you get along

Thanks Benzino

Didn't think of dropping the sump, but will do that when I do the lifters and full service at the same time. Is it a good idea to run engine cleaner through first to thin the oil?

The wheel squeak is worse when cold but will be doing the bearings - will see if that gets rid of it.

I am buying the workshop manual next week at one of these two links, just not sure which is the right one.

http://www.eautofsm.com/part_911/rm

http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/ ... -1997-1998

Will keep you updated. Very impressed with this car despite the obvious problems with buying a used vehicle. Plan to get this thing in 100% shape as funds allow.

don't run cleaner through it as it could dislodge old sludge and block oil galleries, if you want to flush only use more oil... i.e. drop the old oil , fill with new cheap oil, run it and drop the oil again before you put the good oil in and change the filter.

as for the manual, you should be able to find a free one or a direct download one on ebay, but it might be safer to get a leganza one as the nubira one may just be the 1.6l

I'd email it to you but it's about 90mb and my internet isn't very fast

Thanks

Downloaded 2 manuals that advertised as "complete" repair manuals that were useless. Cost a bit too!!!
From:
http://www.tradebit.com/indexNew.php/ba ... /164976666
and
http://www.eautofsm.com/part_911/rm

only up to 1.8 ltr and mine is a 2.0 ltr

Bit p'd off with them.

Will use what I can though and hopefully find one that works.

have you contacted the sellers? I bought one that wasn't complete but it was only $3 so no great loss, I'm pretty sure I have a complete one now.

What sections are you missing? I'm pretty sure you will be missing the manual gearbox section as it took me a while to find that section.

The one from eautofsm is pretty complete, just missing the 2.0 lt engine, unless the 1.8 and the 2.0 are pretty similar. Came in a HTML file so I converted each chapter to PDF so it makes for smaller file sizes.

Update:
After visiting numerous mechanics the consensus is a engine overhaul to the cost of R8000-00 which is a bit much for me to do on my own so will be sending it when funds are available. Need to do the following:

1.Main bearings
2.Big end bearings
3.Rings
4.Water pump
5.Oil pump
6.Replace all the valves
And while I'm at it all the other things that need replacing while the engine is out.

Has all this:

Re: New Nubira owner here

Maybe some help here.
I found the first link to a nubira service manual in 2004 when I bought my Nubi. This manual is far to be complete but it helped me alot.
http://demo2.ovh.net/fr/6ee804ffd1ba0a2 ... b2649cbeb/

The second link is for Nubira parts. Don't know if US models are concerned.
http://demo2.ovh.net/fr/995af670a451d9a ... caf84f083/

Those links are valid for 4 days from now.

Thanks Daniel, that parts list is a great help. If any one needs anything in my posted index list then PM me and I will mail the relevant file if it's not to big.
