Lanos - clunking and vibrating - solved

Post by J_Elliott »

Thought I'd share my recent problem and solution.

My 2000 3 Door Lanos was clunking during low speed turns, sometimes when going over speed bumps at slow speed.

There was also a LOT of vibration when starting from a dead stop, also when traveling over broken pavement - very rough.

I checked the suspension components several times - they were all fine - but I don't know how i missed these during the first look around.

Regardless, it only took 2 hours to replace both, $9 for the rear mount and $14 for the front (rockauto) and the difference is remarkable.

Overall the symptoms I had are lots of road noise into the cabin, lots of vibration when starting from a stop, the shifter was moving backwards during accelleration, clunking during low speed turns, and clunking over speed bumps and rough pavement.

It all seems obvious now, but thought I'd share for others that may have similar problems.
