2002 Daewoo Lanos Engine has no power

Post by clarkw »

Hi I hope someone can help me. I just bought a 2002 Lanos. The engine seems to have no power. When I exellerate, it takes forever to get up to speed. When excellerating, the engine shifts down to passing gear and the whole car bucks and jerks.I can only cimb a small hill at about 10 miles per hour. I am only getting about 20 miles to the gallon. I have changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and spark plug wires. The timing belt seems to be tight. That's as far as I have gotten. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Clark

Hi,

No "check engine" light ON?

Take compressions:
The lowest reading should not be less than 70% of
the highest reading. The compression gauge reading
should not be less than 689 kPa (100 psi) for any of
the cylinders
M/T? check for a slipping clutch.
A/T? check fluid level.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, it is a A/T. Yes, there is a check engine light. I just checked the fuel pressure and it is only 18. Any more ideas?

Compression was about 110 for all.

what's the code given by the CEL?

18psi fuel pressure is incredibly low... did you check it at idle?
does it change if you remove the vacuum source from the regulator?
does it increase if you increase rpm?

Your fuel pump must sustain about 50PSI. Is it the correct reference you placed?

The 18 psi was with someone reving the engine. I decided to order a brand new fuel pump. Maybe the used one I got is no good too. I hope........
