C20LZ block with X20SED head?

Post by amiwillis »

I have a '97 Nubira eurowagon with X20SED that has blown a piston. I also have a complete low mileage C20LZ motor that came from a 1990 Pontiac Lemans. The wagon isn't worth spending money on and so will probably be used for parts. However, before this happens, I am hoping someone might be able to advise if the 8v block could be fitted to the Nubira and existing 16v head and manifolding etc., fitted to that block and not have valves meet pistons or other issues. If it could, what are the chances the car would run tolerably? I wouldn't be expecting it to be a ball of fire, but if it would be capable of local use that would be good enough. From a link on this site I see that the C20LZ is 8.5-9.0:1 compression and the X20SED is 9.5-10.5:1, but I don't know if they achieve the differences through pistons or head chamber volume - the C20LZ is still in one piece and I'd rather keep it that way if the 8v pistons and 16v head are incompatible. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
