Noisy Engine (Nubira)

Post by acme76 »

2002 Daewoo Nubira

I have had this car for more than a year. Everything was goog until I did not change oil for about 4500 miles. It has now total of 23000 miles on it which is not much.

I did change oil after 4500 miles.

However my engine is now very very noisy, even at 35 miles an hour. I am not taking it to highways these days. It runs OK, I get about 22 miles a gallon in city driving (it has been like that since beginning.)

I did have full maintenance service done when it had 17500 miles on it.

Can experts provide any clue ?

It is running OK, just that engine makes noise as if it is working very hard.

Before I take it to a make it to a mechanic, I need to know what to look for.

Thanks for your responses.

Another question - by not changing oil for 4500 miles, have I killed the engine ?

I'm not sure about the noise, is it much louder than what it used to be? Is the noise coming from headers or the engine itself? Maybe you blew a headgasket?

About not changing oil for 4,500 mi... it's perfectly normal. I read somewhere on MSN that if you change your oil ever 7,000 miles you should be fine. I change mine every 3-5k miles.

acme,

Have you used the recommended oil viscosity?
Higher viscosity give noisy lifters.

My 2000 Nubira got very noisy too when the flex pipe let go!

Seriously though, without hearing the noise you hear, it's very hard to diagnose via the net. Try to narrow it down a bit more - does it sound like it's coming from the engine bay? Under the floor? Only when accelerating? High pitched? Low pitched? Rattling noise? etc etc.

There are words within the approximately 800,000 that exist in the English lexicon that fall into the category of onomatopoeia. These words have phonetics that are similar to the action or situation they decribe. These words include "bang", "rattle", "buzz", "cackle", "ping", "wobble" and so on. That said try to find one that fits the condition you are experiencing. Come on bro...let's have an idea. Cars have many sounds that can be louder than normal. Give us more to work with.
